Today I am grateful for Katie Den Ouden, MA, CHC. Katie is a Holistic Health & Wellness Coach and is truly amazing. I have been working with her for the last month and I have seen some real changes already. It was not just about my diet but about my mental wellbeing as well. Her company is called Rooted Wellbeing - "Helping You Find Peace With Your Plate and Balance In Your Body".
I first met Katie at a Whole Foods raw dessert class where she was the instructor. She not only provided the most delicious raw dessert recipes I have ever had but she was filled with amazing knowledge on different types of foods and how they affect your body. Did you know that the brown part around the outside of an almond block the enzymes that are actually in the almond? Soak those almonds over night and drain and dry them to get rid of the blocking agent.
I have had some real Ah-Ha moments during my sessions with Katie- and trust me those moments had nothing to do with food. My latest Ah-Oh moment was survival vs. creation. When I am in survival mode I am tired, a do not tend to feel well, I cannot focus and of course I want comfort foods- breads, sweets, potatoes- basically lots of carbs. When I am creation mode I feel like I have a ton of energy, I feel great and if I want to eat I usually want to create something spectacular out of all the healthy ingredients I have in my frig. I feel in love with life!
How many of you have experienced those times where you are so in love that you forget to eat? You are on this natural high that food is not really a factor in your day until your body finally says- “hello please provide me fuel.” And when you do sit down to eat you feel the need to have a yummy delicious and healthy meal. How we think and feel dictates how we eat? I know I have heard this many times but it really never sunk in.
Katie is so great at helping you figure out what is holding you back on your own terms. She really gets you to think about what are you current comforts in terms of thoughts, feelings and actions and how is that serving you. Now how would you think, feel and act if you had a ton of energy, were healthy and leading a thriving life.
Another great thing about Katie is that she does not take anything out of your diet. It is not about cutting things and making you crave them more. Instead she adds things to your diet. I started with a servings of greens everyday during the first two weeks of working with her. Easy enough and it set me up for success. Within days I began to feel a lot better. I have more energy to use throughout the day. Eventually your body will form new cravings for foods, thoughts, feelings and actions that better serve you.
I feel so fortunate for finding Katie and her business Rooted Wellbeing.
