Day 108 of Gratefulness: Spending Time with Family

Just a few years ago you would barely hear me say that I enjoyed and appreciated spending time with family.  Over the past year though, that has chances and I find myself enjoying the time I get with them more and more.  I am not sure what shifted and there are still those days where I feel frustrated with my family but most of the time together is great.  I believe I have found more forgiveness and more compassion for them.

Today I went shopping with my mom and niece for several hours.  It can be tough on a 2 year old to get in and out of the car and go in and out of stores.  We made the best of it and sometimes pretended we were on a roller coaster and threw our hands in the air.  Sometimes we ran and ran and ran, which is fast walking for me and lots of running for her.  Sometimes we crawled under clothes racks, okay she did it as I am a little too tall for that sort of thing.  We also sat on lots of chairs and sofa to see if they were too hard, too soft or just right.  We even sampled lots of yummy food at Whole Foods including a killer almond flavored cupcake made by Udi’s.

In the evening we made snowman out of marshmallows and my sister and brother-in-law joined in with us.  It was not the easiest things to do but it tasted good and the mess we made was fun.  Then my niece, my dog and I ran circle around the island in the kitchen for like 15 minutes laughing and giggling the whole time.  The dog was barking more than laughing but you get the gist of it.  Mom and I made dinner together and I even got to feed by nephew only because my sister put him in my hands and said, “feed him.”  He is a squirmy little bugger.  I was making some great faces at him and he was laughing up a storm and smiling.  It was a fantastic day with the family even though I am so exhausted.
