It has been my privilege over the last few months to spend
time with several of the vendors of the Denver Voice. The Denver Voice is an amazing organization
that provides homeless, impoverished and honestly anyone an opportunity for
employment. No judgment is made on your
situation, your history or even your job experience. This organization will give you an
opportunity to earn money so you can put a roof over your head and food on the
table. It is not just about the money
though, it is about pride in yourself, it is about being seen as part of the
community and participating the best you can or know how in that
community. It is about standing on your
two feet and having a voice.
I am always amazed at how friendly the vendors are, how real
they and how they are also like you and me.
No one is perfect; we all have our fair shares of issues, concerns and
fears. When you spend just 30 minutes
with a vendor and you hear their story, you hear their struggles, you hear
their fears. But you also hear their excitement, their hopes and dreams for the
future. You realize they are just like
you they have a heart and it beat like every other human being on this
planet. It beats for love, for hope, for
joy and pure bliss; it beats for a chance to succeed. I am truly grateful for the vendors, for the belief
they have in themselves, for the conversations they have with hundreds of
people everyday and for the smiles they bring to this community each and every
day.
